Rocks, Pebbles, and Sand short story

 Rocks, Pebbles, and Sand

A philosophy professor once stood before his class with a large empty mayonnaise jar. He filled the jar to the top with large rocks and asked his students if the jar was full. They all agreed that the jar was indeed full.

Then, the professor added small pebbles to the jar and gave it a gentle shake so the pebbles could disperse themselves among the larger rocks. Again, he asked the students if the jar was full. They nodded, thinking there was no more space left.

Finally, the professor poured sand into the jar, filling the remaining gaps. He asked the class one last time if the jar was full. They hesitated but agreed that it was full now.

The professor then explained the moral behind this simple demonstration:

Large Rocks: These represent the big priorities in our lives—our goals, dreams, and aspirations. If we don’t put them in first, they won’t fit later.Small Pebbles: These symbolize the smaller tasks, daily routines, and responsibilities. They fit around the big rocks. While important, they shouldn’t take precedence over our major life goals.
Sand: The sand represents the little things, distractions, and minor details. They fill the gaps left by the rocks and pebbles. While necessary, they shouldn’t dominate our time and energy.
The Lesson: Prioritize your life by putting the big rocks first—your dreams, relationships, health, and personal growth. Then, handle the smaller tasks and distractions. If you focus on the sand first, you’ll never have room for the rocks.

Remember, life is about balance and making room for what truly matters. Keep your eyes on the big rocks, and the rest will fall into place
